Around 100 Knox students and staff members completed Nedd's Uncomfortable Challenge (NUC) this week, an effort which was recognised by Nedd Brockmann himself, who visited the School on 28 October to meet the Knox team - including several sons of Old Boys. NUC is a 10-day event where participants commit to a daily task that pushes them outside their comfort zone. While doing so, they raise funds for Mobilise, an Australian charity developing solutions to help people facing homelessness in Australia. There are more than 122,000 people currently experiencing homelessness across the country, including 30,000 under the age of 18. To put this into perspective financially, it costs approximately $1,000 per month to provide housing for just one person. This year at Knox, the organising team led by Student Support Officer, Phil Scarr, offered three challenges:
Students and staff who signed up each set a personal goal that truly made them "uncomfortable." Participants were required to complete their daily challenge around their usual schedules — no excuses! Collectively, the team achieved some outstanding results:
"We are extremely proud of these efforts and, to date, have raised $17,500 to support Australians experiencing homelessness," said Mr Scarr. "The students and staff who participated had the incredible opportunity to spend an hour with Nedd and his team. He connected effortlessly with the boys and delivered powerful messages that will undoubtedly stay with them for years to come," he said. The students would be very grateful if any Old Boys would consider donating in support of those who completed challenge to support people experiencing homelessness. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
