After winning the minor premiership and making the grand final in their first season of the Men's Premier Division (Winter 2024), the OKGA Knights commenced their second season (Spring) as one of the teams to beat. Led by co-MVPs Matt Steel (OKG19) and Matt Pain (OKG22), and co-defensive players of the year, Matt Steel and James Steel (OKG22), the team included Anthony Fotopoulos (OKG10), Keanu Goehring (OKG21), Harry Liubinskas (OKG24), Lachlan McKimm (OKG17), Joshua Pain (OKG20), Adam Thoma (OKG20), and Lachlan Pain (OKG24). Teams across the Premier Division reloaded their rosters after the Waratah Youth League and NBL1 tournaments ended, making the competition the strongest we have seen. The OKGA Knights accepted the challenge and started the season with some early wins, however with several players unavailable mid-season, the team had a series of close games but unfortunately finished second best. With the team now at full strength and peaking at the right time, the OKGA Knights have pulled together a handful of wins. Led by stellar performances from this season's MVP front-runner, Joshua Pain, a second consecutive playoff berth is still within reach, after some convincing wins against the very best teams in the competition. The OKGA Rangers are competing in the Men's A Division competition this season. After a slow start, with several players unavailable, the OKGA Rangers have persevered and are now in great form. Finding their rhythm in the second half of the season and securing a string of wins has put them in prime position to clinch a finals spot. The OKGA Rangers feature Benjamin Wickins (OKG18), Dave Sherlock (OKG19), James Cannon (OKG19), Alex Vaughan (OKG20), Rourke Voyzey (OKG21), Max Graham (OKG22) and Fergus Wyse (OKG22). The strongest qualities these teams display are team chemistry, camaraderie, competitiveness, commitment and passion for the game of basketball. These qualities continue to build community and the culture of OKGA basketball. Both teams come together every Sunday afternoon at Knox from 4pm – 6pm for fun and competitive practice sessions throughout the season. OKGA Knights Manager – Anthony Fotopoulos |
